Don’t Stop You Now
We wonder how stop signs became so recognizable. There is an apparent reason—we use them all of the time. But back in 1915, there were all sorts of versions of stop signs depending on what part of the country you lived in. Can you imagine trying to break at a yellow warning or yielding at an orange and black one? It must have been a nightmare. Luckily, in 1922, the American Association of Highway Officials, or AASHO, standardized the stop sign we know for the whole country.
